  • Chalet Bon Coin, La Plagne, Friday 8th Dec, 8.30am, -4C

Woke this morning to discover about 6/7 inches of fresh overnight snow.  Cannot see far out of the windows as the snow is still falling to restrict long visibility.  No wind to talk of, so the snow will sit nicely without drifting.  On the measuring gauge in the garden it’s reading 80cm depth.  No exercise walking today, so my get fit programme is interrupted…. but for a good cause!  Had a bit of practice at Tignes on Tuesday with Chef Dan and Jodie to look after me.  Good pistes and a fine sunny day with an excellent lunch at Clarine in Val Claret.  I could get used to this…… Len

  • Len in La Plagne, Saturday 25th November

With fairly sunny and dry weather here this week, I’ve been extending my daily walks further down the mountain so that there is more uphill on the way home!   Felt exhausted, but whether I’m fitter or not could be a case for argument.  Saturday and, as forecast, it’s snowing quite nicely and we’ve had about 6 inches at a guess with a little more to come tomorrow.  The test of my fitness will come on Monday when Owen and Cathy of Chalet Saffron, are driving round with me to Val Claret (Tignes) for our first taste of skiing this winter.  With the latest snowfall, conditions should be about perfect.  Not sure whether to test our my new Dynastar Legends.  Will probably settle for last year’s in case there are a few stones about…it’s heartbreaking to damage new skis.  Now back to my starvation diet……

  • Len in La Plagne, 19.11.17

A couple of days of bright sunny weather, but very cold.  Super crisp ski-ing weather but no lifts open yet and the mountains looking at their best in a white blanket.  Started some short walks to help get aclimatized, then on Saturday, Paul and Melanie (Chalet Chanousia) arrived from the UK with my new skis on board.  Something about getting new skis and I felt like Christmas had come early!  We fitted the bindings on Sunday (very easy with the design, no experts needed and no drilling) and the Dynastar Legends are ready for the slopes.  To add a bit to the day, it started snowing in the afternoon while James, Dan the Chef, and the other early arrivals played a noisy game of Monopoly to relax before getting back to their painting and prep’ work on Monday.  Had planned to visit Tignes glacier after next weekend, but the forecast is for heavy snow to hit us, so I’ll probably stay in the Bon Coin warmth… Len

  • Len arrives in La Plagne

Armistice Day and I was on an early morning flight to Geneva where Dan, the chef of Bon Coin chalet met me for the 2 hour drive to La Plagne.  Very cloudy all the way and light snow was falling as we reached the bottom of the mountain.  We found “real” snow as we drove past the Olympic Bob Sleigh and into Plagne 1800.  From there the whole area was white and the snow became heavier as the evening came in.  Sunday morning woke to find about 12 inches of snow outside the door and snow still falling.  Very cold at present with a forecast of even colder to come.  Now I will be spending my time tyring to get ski fit before the lifts open and a starvation diet to help!  Can’t wait to try my new Dynastar Legend ski’s… Len

  • First Blog of the 2017/18 Season

First Blog of the new ski season with the first winter snow now arriving.

Am expecting a delivery of new Dynastar skis in a few days.  The all new Legend 84 all mountain ski.  Story is that they (a bit like the earlier Legend model that I ski’d on for years) are very good in bumps and also hold well on hardpack/icy pistes.  Later on, when I have had time to test them, I will give my report.  In the meantime, we can suppy at 25% discount off the normal £550 price tag including Look bindings with lengths ranging from 156cm to 184cm.  For lazy skiers like me it’s good to know that they can be used on the short side (approx. eyebrow level).  Contact me by email… [email protected]  Can’t wait for December, Len
