  • Len Silver Reporting from La Plagne

Woke up this morning (Wednesday) to find heavy snowfall taking place and fairly windy, looks like it’s going on all day and a brief look at the forecast tells me that apart from Thursday when we will get some sunshine, lots of snow to come, especially Friday night/Saturday morning.  Easy decision for me to do a bit of office work and a long lunch break!  Len

With the temperatures sitting nicely at -5C, the snow is staying in good condition.  Very sunny all day Tuesday (6 Jan) so I spent alot of time in the Champagny area where the sun is at it’s best.  I found Verdon South particularly good with excellent snow even on the steep reds on that side….. My favourite Rossa, as always, was a delight and I was able to “let it all hang out” and produce some fast speeds to make my heart bang a bit!  Afternoon skiing was mainly on the beautiful pisted red, Inversens, from the top of Roche de Mio,  just wish that chair was a little bit faster, but I’m nicely rested by the time I get to the top again so it’s not all bad.  Weather forecast is for more sun until Friday when we expect some more snow over the weekend…Len

The Silver Ski teams, both in the UK office and our resorts in France wish you all a very Happy Christmas.

The most up to date information on skiing conditions came through this morning (Christmas Eve) from Len Silver in La Plagne – he wrote ‘I ski’d for about 2 hours yesterday and mostly on very well prepared pistes, very enjoyable.  Only the steep parts were a bit icy, but quite manageable.  Snow is forecast for Friday (modest) Saturday (heavy) and Sunday (light).  Many more runs are open now.  Verdon North and Colorado lifts opened and the runs from them were excellent.  Some runs are open down to Montchavin although I have not yet ski’d them myself, only the Dos Rond down to the Pierre Blanche restaurant on very good snow…. In general the conditions are far better than expected.  Len’

The Silver Ski office will be operating on a skeleton staff over the festive period – please leave a message and we will get back to you!

  • Do you Want to Build a Snowman?

Chalet Bon Coin opened it’s doors this weekend to a very special VIP guest!! Rumour is… Olaf heard how good the snow is in La Plagne and couldn’t resist a visit to check it out for himself!!

And it’s true – just look at this photo taken on Saturday, looking up towards the Bergerie lift:

Looking up to the Bergerie 17.11.14

There has been a flurry of activity, both in La Plagne and the Three Valleys over the last month and a great deal of work is taking place in preparation for the season ahead.

Firstly, our Head Chef, Dan, arrived in La Plagne.  New to us this season, Dan comes to Silver Ski with a wealth of cooking knowledge and skills; he is keeping our resort team extremely well fed while they undertake renovation works in the chalets (I am told that Dan’s talents even extend to the use of a paintbrush and he has been roped in to helping in the DIY department too!).  Dan will be passing on his expert knowledge and top tips during the pre-season training of all our chefs/cooks in early December.

Steve and Debs (again new this season – hosts for Chalet Jasmine in La Plagne) have also arrived in resort and  have joined forces with Bianca, Chris, Nick & Amanda and have been busily preparing our new chalets in La Tania.  Steve, I am told, also baked a wonderful chocolate cake this week (only to be dropped by one of our Directors on transit to La Tania – what a waste!!).  They are soon to be joined by Helen and Brian (our hosts for our new Chalet Lyra in La Tania).  Brian will be joining the painting and decorating team, while Helen’s talents will be put to use on the sewing machine!

Yesterday the staff took a day off from prepping the chalets and the team in resort made the most of the fresh snow and blue skies (over 10 inches fell on Saturday night)!

    Snow is falling 17.11.14

On to news from the Maidstone Office – last week we had a BIG birthday, and so our congratulations go to Ann on her milestone event.

Hazal, our Director, also has a BIG birthday coming up – so there has been plenty to celebrate this year including a trip to a rather swanky hotel for afternoon tea & cakes (well afternoon Champagne & cakes actually!!)

Sales this season have been superb and anyone looking to take advantage of the cheap lift pass deals and quiet slopes experienced on the first week of the season will need to get in quickly, especially if you’re hoping to stay in the Three Valleys (we only have 3 rooms left in La Tania and 4 rooms left in Meribel).  Remember we are offering group discounts on this date, so the holidays can be booked for as little as £399 per person, amazing!

With the New Year week now fully booked and only 4 rooms left for the Christmas week our attention turns to January holidays.   Anyone booking a holiday to La Plagne on the week commencing 11th January can benefit from a great lift pass offer – buy a 6 day adult La Plagne only pass and receive an upgrade to a full Paradiski pass, a great saving of €44 per person.  We are also offering group discounts on both 4th and 11th January departures, which make our early January holidays great possibilities for spending money brought by Santa!

In my December update I hope to bring you photos of our new chalets and some pictures of the renovations – watch this space!
