  • Len – Thursday 2nd December

With clear blue skies and cold temperatures in force, I headed up to the Grande Motte Glacier at Tignes together with Liz and Ben who will be running Chalet Boulevard this term.  A little surprised to see some of the lower chair lifts at Val Claret open with good pistes above when we got there.  So we had an exhilarating, but very exhausting day, having to give it best by 2 o’clock with our legs getting wobbly.  I think mine would have given out sooner had it not been for the pleasure of my new Powertrack’s.  Long range forecast is for snow before Christmas, but the cannons are going at full pelt everywhere (including Tignes!).  All the rest of the staff arrive tomorrow to start their training and prep’ week so life will be noisier from now on! Noted that the pound is steadily getting stronger against the Euro, so that’s good news for everyone… Len

  • Len Silver – Tuesday 15th November

With the fresh snow sending out tempting messages, our chef, Dan, and I made the trip to the Glacier at Tignes today (Tuesday).  Sun shining and not too cold it was the perfect day.. we even found a parking space right next to the funicular railway… that was a bonus! The height of the glacier brings a shortage of oxygen, so we were both puffing a bit, but not too bad.  On near perfect snow we had a ball, ski-ing (or for Dan, boarding) from the peak of the Grande Motte at 3500m, non stop to Val Claret at 2100m… breathtaking and my new Dynastar Powertracks were absolutely superb, even better than I thought they’d be and making my first day on ski’s really memorable.  On the way back we discovered that the piste machines were working in La Plagne and the cannons were blowing snow this morning to mix with the new snow that is forecast for Friday and the week-end… all good stuff… 2 new sub-managers arriving this evening… I wonder what they will be like??      Len

  • Len – 13th November 2016

With the snowfall finally easing off, I spent Sunday out in the Bon Coin “Back Garden” on my ski’s making a piste to ski home on.  Treading the deep snow to flatten it, hardest work I’ve done this winter!  But we’ll now have a good hard base which will last the whole season to ski home on.  The exercise will help me anyway as the Chef, Dan, and I plan a trip to the Tignes Glacier on what is promised to be a sunny Tuesday.

Meanwhile Dan drove up to Aime 2000 today, then hiked up to Becoin carrying his snowboard from where he and one or two friends boarded all the way down to La Roche… he came home exhausted! More snow due towards the end of this week… Len

  • Len – La Plagne 10.11.16

Chalet Bon Coin, La Plagne, Thursday November 10.  Arrived here not quite two weeks ago with the idea of getting acclimatised and fit for the ski-ing season.  Started off as normal with some mountain walking but the last few days have become very boring… reason is the heavy snowfall that has consistently dumped now for several days.  Each morning we’re shovelling snow away from the front door and it’s now beginning to look like mid-winter with the amount piling up.  What’s more, the forecast for the coming 10 days or so is… more of the same.

This is, without argument, the best early snow for a long time so when the lifts open on the 10th December I won’t need to use my “rockhopper” ski’s…. I can use my brand new Dynastar Powertracks!

    Can’t wait…Len

  • Len – Weather Forecast!

Have been keeping a daily eye on snow forecasts for La Plagne.  Of course they are not always accurate BUT, in a 3/4 day period around the last week of October there is a forecast of over one and a half metres of snow at resort level and above.  My assumption is that the real snow will be above 2000m, ie just around Plagne Centre.  Will make our pre-season prep’ work a bit more difficult, but GREAT for early ski-ing… I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the news is correct.  To view the forecast go into “Snow forecast La Plagne” then click onto 14 day forecast…. can’t wait to get on my new skis…Len
